Candy Bar Sales

Candy bar selling time is upon us.  Mrs. Hammer has sent information via email to each of you. We will be distributing the candybars on Thursday night. You should receive the permission slip on Tuesday or Wednesday and copies will be available at the meeting.  Remember that many of the boys pay for summer camp with their sale of candybars.

Meeting Update

At this Thursday's meeting (2-2-2012) we are going to be doing Requirment # 3, a 3-5 minute speech, and # 6, a how-to presentation, of the the Communications Merit Badge.  Most of the boys have already given me an idea for each of these requirements.Your son should come prepared to do at least one of these requirements. I need to know who will be at Thursday's meeting and which requirement they will be doing.  If they have both ready to go that would be great.  Please email Mrs. Sandberg to let me know their plan.  Don't forget the Feb. 7th meeting at Peshtigo City Hall 6:30 to complete requirement # 5.

Merit Badge Paperwork - Last Call!

I encourage all of the boys to get caught up on their paperwork for their merit badges.  Our senior patrol leader has been keeping up with the lists Mrs. Sandberg has sent out so the boys can ask Mrs. Sandberg or Andrew.   Mrs. Sandberg is accepting paperwork and it would be great if boys are close, they get their paperwork in so that we can recognize them at the Court of Honor on Thursday night.

Important Health History & Yearly Form Changes

Scouters: BSA National has recently notified all units of the updated BSA Annual Health & Medical Record. There are many important changes in this new version, including a new Parental/Guardian Informed Consent and Hold Harmless/Release Agreement, as well as an updated Talent Release Statement. The following information comes from an advisory letter from the Bay Lakes Council:

In order to provide better care for its members and to assist them in better understanding their own physical capabilities, the Boy Scouts of America recommends that everyone who participates in a Scouting event have an annual medical evaluation by a certified and licensed health-care provider—a physician (MD or DO), nurse practitioner, or physician assistant. Providing your medical information on this four-part form will help ensure you meet the minimum standards for participation in various activities. Note that unit leaders will always protect the privacy of unit participants by protecting their medical information.

Parts A & B are to be completed at least annually by participants in all Scouting events. This health history, parental/guardian informed consent and hold harmless/release agreement, and talent release statement is to be completed by the participant and parents/guardians.

Part C is the physical exam that is required for participants in any event that exceeds 72 consecutive hours, for all high-adventure base participants, or when the nature of the activity is strenuous and demanding. Service projects or work weekends may fit this description. Part C is to be completed and signed by a certified and licensed heath-care provider—physician (MD or DO), nurse practitioner, or physician assistant. It is important to note that the height/weight limits must be strictly adhered to when the event will take the unit more than 30 minutes away from an emergency vehicle–accessible roadway, or when the program requires it, such as [summer camp, river and bike trips,] backpacking trips, high-adventure activities, and conservation projects in remote areas.

Part D is required to be reviewed by all participants of a high-adventure program at one of the national high-adventure bases and shared with the examining health-care provider before completing Part C.

Please utilize this new form when completing your yearly updates this 2011-2012 Scouting Year. As this new form includes a parental and talent release, filling out separate forms are no longer required. For yearly updates, please complete this new health history form in its entirety, as well as any medication cards as required for summer camp. If you have any questions, please contact Mr. Schroeder. Thank you!
